Words. Wisdom. Winners.
All of a sudden in 2020…
“Hey warikoo, looks like you surfaced all of a sudden in 2020, and did not exist before that.”
Someone said that to me recently on Twitter, as to how I got “famous” all of a sudden through the pandemic.
However, here is the reality:
I’ve been blogging since 2005 (17 yrs)
Sharing content on LinkedIn since 2013 (9 yrs)
My YouTube channel started 2017 (5 yrs)
On Instagram since 2017 (5 yrs)
What most people see as a sudden fame, was in reality years of showing up to the process, without worrying about fame and fortune, and filling up my well of happiness. Your inner world drives the outer world.
Brand wariCrew
We have recently started documenting what we do as a team, such as
- How we decide on the offsite
- What does the monthly ratings look like?
- Bonus hitting the bank
- What we did with the bonus
- How Radical Candor feedback flows in the team
- How we went about recruiting the latest hire?
- All the external agencies we work with and how?
- How we decide on birthday gifts
- Team members going through courses
When we share what we do as a team, it shows all the action that is happening behind the scenes, that makes action happen. Which makes people relate to our reality, and makes us form even stronger connections with our community. Win-win!
5 types of people
5 types of people to stay away from:
1. Who mess with your mind.
2. Who intentionally say or do things that may hurt you.
3. Who expect you to give them importance, but fail to give importance to you.
4. Who act as a victim, whenever you try to talk to them.
5. Who don’t apologise.
Who would be the 6th one, according to you?
Hate college?
If I were in your place and hated college because it’s not teaching me anything, I would rather change the purpose of college.
I would make it about:
– Networking
– Internships
– Public speaking
– Cold emails
– Starting up
– Pursuing hobbies.
College can be awesome even if you do not put pressure on it to educate you.
When people start reading books
I have received multiple messages since the release of my book Do Epic Shit, that it was the first book they read.
And they fell in love with reading books, after that.
To me, here is what I believe in:
These are not just stacks of books.
These are the joys you give me, for choosing to read books and make your life a little better, each time you read.
Because, all great leaders are great readers!
When wisdom becomes a habit, gratitude remains just a small word.
Smile
Smile is such a powerful thing.
It makes us feel better about ourselves, helps us go beyond the limitations of what we “should” be doing, and makes us realise that it’s seriously important to not take everything seriously.
Smile in the mirror.
Smile in interviews.
Smile at strangers on the street, in the elevator, and even in washrooms.
Smile, because the world already has a lot of frowns. :)
Subtle signs of richness
- Sofa is not against a wall
- You do not feel the need to compete against anyone.
- You are super comfortable not being productive every second.
Richness is not only what money brings. It is also what comes in when we focus on what truly matters for us.
Set goals and targets?
Setting goals and targets can be quite tricky.
If we hit them, we feel great about them. But what if we could have hit a bigger goal?
If we don’t hit them, we feel bad about ourselves. But what if we weren’t prepared to hit them in the first place itself?
That’s why, in my team wariCrew (tag), we have ZERO targets.
None at all.
How do we get things done, then?
Here’s how:
1. We build a process for what we do. And we do that clinically.
2. Every week, we analyse how well the process is serving us. Through data.
3. Based on those numbers, we figure what is working, and what isn’t. We do more of what’s working. Do less of what isn’t. Rinse and repeat.
3 years of this process and we have achieved goals that we could not set out for ourselves!
From virtually nothing at the start of 2020, we are a 7Mn+ follower brand on social media!
All of this happened, because we signed up for the process.
Set habits. Not goals!
Find someone…
Find the manager who saw your errors and still chose to trust.
Find the investor who saw you fail and still chose to support.
Find the friend who saw your ills and still chose to love.
Find the partner who saw the worst of you and still chose to stay.
Why should you help people?
Because you can!
Because it selfishly makes you feel good!
Because help is how we extend what we have, otherwise we all would stink if we stagnate.
Help is such a powerful emotion we extend along with the gesture of help itself, because it reminds us of who we really are, before the world taught us who we should be!
